A major concern of people undergoing a neck lift, or any plastic surgery procedure, is the downtime required following the operation. During a patients consultation at the Aesthetic Surgery Center, Dr. Fredric Newman takes the time to provide a comprehensive overview of what he or she can expect throughout the entire process, including what the recovery typically involves.
Neck lift surgery is an outpatient procedure that typically has a relatively short recovery period. As Dr. Newman completes the surgery, small sutures are placed under the chin & behind each ear to close the incisions. He then covers the surgical site with a large, soft dressing for the first night. The following day, the initial dressing is removed, and Dr. Newman provides a compression wrap that is fitted with a special velcro strap, helping the neck heal properly.
Bruising and swelling are perfectly normal to experience within the first week or so, but this should gradually fade as the neck heals. Dr. Newman recommends patients get plenty of rest for the first few days. You can shower within 72 hours after your surgery, but he stresses to patients that they should avoid vigorous activity for several weeks.
