Loose Muscle Tissue

The platysma is a paired muscle that runs vertically down the center of the neck just under the skin. As a person ages, the right and left sides of the muscle separate, producing the appearance of band or cords along the neck.

Dr. Newman performs the neck lift procedure to tighten the platysma muscle to reduce the appearance of neck bands, and elevate the soft tissues of the neck to a more youthful position.

Excess Fat

Patients often have excess fat in the neck. This could be the result of genetics, the aging process, or weight gain. For many patients, the excess fat that is present in the neck and under the chin will not go away, even with a good diet and exercise routine.

In these cases, Dr. Newman can perform neck lift surgery to remove or redistribute the fat in the neck and chin area to create a more defined neckline. This procedure can eliminate the appearance of a double chin.

Excess Skin

Excess skin is a common side effect of the aging process. Excess skin is also more likely to occur in patients that have experienced repeated weight gain and weight loss throughout the years.

If you have excess skin on the neck that contributes to skin wrinkling or gets bunched up when wearing certain shirts, you may wish to undergo neck lift surgery. During this procedure, we will tighten the skin on the neck by lifting up the skin, re-draping it, and removing any excess. The end result is a sleeker contour and more youthful appearance.

Good Health

In order to be considered a good candidate for neck lift surgery, patients should be in good health. If you have any medical conditions, such as diabetes, these should be under control to prevent any complications during or after surgery.

We will also discuss any medications you are taking, as some can affect surgery. For example, if you take blood thinners, this can increase bleeding, so we will need to develop a plan to maintain the safety of your procedure.

Non-smokers

It is important that patients that undergo any type of plastic surgery not smoke, or at a minimum, quit smoking in the weeks before and after the procedure. Smoking can delay wound healing, result in more obvious scarring, and increase the risk of infection and other complications.

To find out if you are a good candidate for a neck lift, contact the practice of Dr. Fredric Newman today. Dr. Newman will perform an examination and discuss your concerns and goals to develop your personal treatment plan.

If you are considering plastic surgery in Fairfield County or anywhere in Connecticut, contact us to schedule a one-on-one consultation with one of our expert plastic surgeons.
