Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) is a comfortable procedure aimed at stimulating the body’s own collagen and elastin production to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity, acne scarring and surgical scars. Microneedling improves the skin's texture, tone and color; resulting in younger looking skin and fewer signs of aging. Microneedling is used on all areas of the body and is safe for all skin types.
SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process – inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling – to prompt tissue remodeling without causing scar tissue formation. After microneedling Connecticut patients can often return to normal activities within 24 hours.
Excellent results can be obtained in just one treatment. However, the number of treatments needed may vary from patient to patient. We can personalize a plan based on your specific needs and may choose to combine SkinPen Microneedling with other aesthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and based on your needs, we will likely apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. For the face, the treatment will take about 30 minutes – other areas of the body may take longer. Most patients report feeling only the slight vibration of SkinPen during the procedure.
The skin will appear slightly pink to red immediately post-procedure, similar to a mild to moderate sunburn, as well as mild swelling. You may be given skin care products and instructions on how to use them. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light after the procedure, so you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. It is recommended that you always use some level of sun protection to avoid sun damage and premature aging of your skin. Additionally, the most common treatment responses experienced are dryness, rough skin, tightness, redness, itching, peeling, discomfort, tenderness, and burning. These conditions generally resolve over a few days without complications.
Depending on the depth of treatment, most Connecticut micrneedling patients feel comfortable enough to return to work within 24 hours after redness and swelling subsides. Avoid working out or any other perspiration-inducing activities until skin is fully healed.
Many patients are surprised to learn that results are almost immediate. As soon as the micro-wounds are created within the skin, the body’s wound healing processes respond to heal them. This means collagen production is accelerated, along with cellular turnover. While some results may be almost immediate, your best results usually won’t be visible until four to six weeks after the procedure.
